Movie star reaches out to the less-privileged children in Abra

 By Maritess B. Beñas

DOLORES, Abra,Aug. 7 (PIA) — Pupils from barangay Cardona, this town, received school bags filled with school supplies and slippers from movie star, Diether Ocampo, last week.

Aboard a rubber boat, Ocampo and his team dared the heavy rains brought by typhoon Gener and raging rivers in Abra in order to reach the people of Brgy. Cardona where the KIDS Foundation, Inc., which he heads, intends to construct a multi-level school building.

Ocampo wanted to have a look into the actual conditions of the locality in order to be able to make the appropriate program and proposal for the school building requested by the people through Mayor Robert Victor G. Seares, Jr.

The two-story school building will serve at the same time as evacuation center for Brgy. Cardona which is always flooded during the rainy seasons as it is low-level and is surrounded by three rivers and creeks. The place is usually isolated even with just monsoon rains.

The KIDS (Kabataang Inyong Dapat Suportahan) Foundation, Inc., founded by Ocampo in 2006 with three other co-founders, has for its mission to respond to needs of the less-privileged children. According to Teejay Deovilla, Programs Coordinator of KIDS Foundation, Inc., Ocampo, orphaned at 8, was inspired to put up this foundation for children as a way of sharing his blessings to the kids.

Ocampo and his team were supposed to go to Brgy. Cardona on July 31, but they could not cross the Malanas River in Poblacion, Dolores which swelled and that the ordinary bamboo rafts could not cross. Instead, Ocampo spent the day with the people of Dolores and had his birthday party celebration with the children at the Dolores town plaza.

It was also an opportunity where Judith Milagros Zapata, the teacher-adviser of the Drum and Lyre Corps of Dolores Central School requested for a bass drum and trio drums while the pupils requested for a computer unit for the school. Ocampo promised to deliver the said items during his next trip to Dolores.

The following day, soldiers from the 503rd Infantry Brigade of the Philippine Army led by Capt. Regy Go and Capt. Erwin Libnao provided security and helped staff of the local government unit in transporting the school supplies to Brgy. Cardona, despite the rains.

The LGU also thanked Ms. Michelle Seares-Umali for linking up with the ABS-CBN TV program “Ako and Simula”, which works in close coordination with the KIDS Foundation as sponsor of the projects being brought to Dolores. (JDP/MTBB-PIA CAR,Abra)

    • False. You’re just refusing to see the progress Dolores has undergone for the past 2 years. Sure, JR may have secrets but I’ll take 2 years of Mayor JR over a hundred years of anybody else na naging Mayor anytime when it comes to the development of Dolores.

  7. @pagalsem – that project should be still before but why is it only now ? It is due to coming election that is why politicians come out to show some flowery actions to get the trust of voters again and again . If a politician really does his job as an advocate of his area then he could do it under his term and not only for a show up election again. They are only so called’ fair weather’ politicians. Indeed, they are all the great pretenders and traitors.

  8. you got a point TATA,im not defending the mayor for im not from dolores and hardly knows the fellow, but had you considered the time that the request`had been forwarded to the KIDS foundation?to the time that such requests was studied and granted?to the time and date scheduled delivery of goods?because being the chief executive of the town, perhaps,he is compelled to grace the occasion, for ABRA was a province famous for its hospitality!

  9. Is that what we mean coincidence? me too am not from dolores but only my roots come from bangued. But I am just being annoyed with all politicians of what they are doing . They just come and show up for elections and they do not care anymore of what they had promised when they were still campaigning.

  18. Like it or not, all these moves by JR will benefit Dolores. It’s for his re-election? It doesn’t matter. All mayors and other politicians go through this period. The last few months before the next election. What do you expect them to do? Sit on their fat asses and do nothing?

and FYI, look around. Look at the roads. Look at the new buildings, and the newly renovated ones. Look at the Municipality. These take time to build. JR has been doing his job since assuming his Office and not just now. If you don’t see these as beneficial to the people of Dolores, you’re blinded by fanaticism for ****** when you should be helping the betterment of Dolores.
