These were Atty. Allen “Brix” Bachiller’s words, a day after the elections which was posted on his Facebook account. He eventually went on to win a seat as a member of Sanggunian Bayan of Bangued.
Almost 2 months later on July 2, 2016, 2 assassins riding in tandem gunned down Atty. Bachiller together with his brother Angelo. Atty. Bachiller suffered gun shot wound in the face and back, while his brother was hit in the pelvic area. Both are now recuperating but according to our sources, a bullet still remains in the back of Atty. Bachiller and Angelos’s pelvis.

What’s the motive?
It’s more than three weeks since the brutal shooting and no breakthrough in this case. As usual the police have no clue and no major political personalities came out in public to denounce such an act.
The families and friends of Atty. Bachiller are fearing the worst, that is, this shooting incident will add to the numerous unsolved cases in Abra.
So who would do such a thing? Why would someone wants Atty. Bachiller dead? The motive seems to point to Politics. Of course until the gunmen get caught and spill the beans who masterminded this attempted murder, below analysis are all circumstantial and some accounts are based on users’ feedback to us here at abrenian.com
Atty. Bachiller was a 3 time Sanggunian Panlalawigan (SP) member before he ran for Sanggunian Bayan (SB) in Bangued during the last elections.
He ran under Ex-Gov. Takit Bersamin’s Team Love Abra against the Team Asenso Abreno lead by now Governor-elect Joy Valera-Bernos.
In Atty. Bachiller’s own words, the election was “hot and divisive”. I agree, I was there. Not only hot and divisive but turn into personal attacks as well.
During the campaign period, Atty. Bachiller and Dick Villareal Bersamira, (which I understand a member of the media and more important a staunch supporter of Mayor Dominic Valera) had some public argument via Social Media, regarding the handling of the Municipal Ordinance 51 also known as the Riding-In-tandem Ordinance.
The Ordinance was passed by the SB’s in Bangued but was later held in abeyance by the SP of Abra which Atty. Bachiller was a member. Bersamira accused Bachiller of sitting/blocking the approval of the case which the latter denied saying it was the SB’s who didn’t provide additional information requested by the SP members. It is ironic though that 2 riding in tandem assassins tried to kill Atty. Bachiller.
Anyway, we all knew the results, the Team Asenso Abreno went on to dominate the elections. But despite the onslaught, Atty. Bachiller was one of the two opposition member (the other was Jorobots Bersamin) who survived and got a seat in the SB.
During the Oathtaking of SB. Several witnesses (who spoke on conditions of anonymity) informed abrenian.com that Atty. Bachiller, was humiliated and ridiculed. Someone at Bangued Munisipyo utters the words “Puskol pa lang rupa yo nga umay agpakita ditoy.”. Probably referring to Atty. Bachiller’s presence.
This is probably the reason why Atty. Bachiller opted to ask Judge Red Valera to administer his oath of office in a simple ceremony.

Atty. Bachiller was shot on the evening of July 2, 2016. He was supposed to attend his first session the next day July 3, 2016. He didn’t make it or someone didn’t want him to be there.
He’s in now in the hospital with a bloated face and a bullet still lodge in his back, instead of wearing his barong and joining the 7 other SB Members.
