One month before the May 2016 elections, the Vice-Governorship contest suddenly made a twisting turn. Former Bangued Mayor, Ryan Seares Luna, was granted bail paving the way for his candidacy.
I had a chance to interview when he was preparing for the 2013 Elections. He was very confident then to win agains their return bout with Dominic Valera but he was also worried:
RL: I won the elections in 2010 convincingly against tito Dominic (the Mayor and Valera are relatives). Mariknak nga addu met ti mayat ti innar-aramid ko as Mayor. So I am very confident that I will get their support. I have the support of the youth. Ngem uray met dagiti nataengan ket kunanada met nga mayat ti pang-papalakad ko ditoy munisipyo.
SysOp: What are your worries in this election?
RL: Ammom met nga medyo nagulo ti election sir. Detta violence and vote-buying siguro ti talaga nga issue. Ti laeng met maybagak ket Bangued voters are now intelligent. They are no longer swayed with selling their votes. Ibutos da ti ammo da nga makatulong ti Bangued. Ngem adda latta ti butteng da. Ngem I am commited sa peaceful elections. Suruten mi met amin nga ibaga ni Gen. Magalong.
Well, he was right, as He was issued a warrant of arrest just one week before the 2013 Elections and eventually lost to now Mayor Dominic Valera.
Earlier, there were reports that the Lunas are now align to the Bersamin Camp dumping Marco Bautista and Rolando Somera for Congressman and Vice-Governor Candidates respectively. The Bersamins denied the allegations.
Luna is running against Ronald Stimson Balao-as and Rolando Somera. His mother, Cecy Luna is running for Congress. (abrenian.com)
