Abra Medical Society
MAOAY, BANGUED, ABRA — At least 250 barangay folks are recipients of the medical mission dubbed “Operation We Care” sponsored by the Abra Medical Society (AMS) and Saint Therese of the Child Jesus Parish in Penarrubia, Abra.
The medical mission provided free medical and dental services to the people including consultations, and free medicines. Said medical mission that ran for half day was held at the Barangay Plaza of Maoay, Bangued.
Fr. Tony Ruyan thanked the medical volunteers for their free service to his parishioners especially to the people of Sappaac, Maoay and Calot and said that the mission was a tremendous success in terms of its health impact to the 3 barangays.
“I thanked the AMS and their auxiliaries for their noble deeds and I hope that this medical mission is just the start of a long partnership with the AMS,” Ruyan said.
Doctors who gave free medical services were Dr. Denise Florence Bragas, Dr. Joselito Bringas, Dr. Nestor Venus, Dr. Alex Bayubay, Dr. Crizelda Ciubal and Dr. Maria Luisa Taverner. They were assisted by the Alliance of Young Nurse Leaders and Advocates (AYNLA) headed by AYNLA Mayor Darren Cariño, the members of the Philippine Nurses Association (PNA) headed by President Katherine Cabunoc and Divine Word College of Bangued (DWCB) Health Sciences Department and Mission Club headed by Dr. Joseph Manuel Radam. Dentists who extended free dental services included Dr. Meynarda Yamat, Dr. Cindy Rose Stimson, Dr. Rhea Dale Bayugo and Dr. Bethany Bernardez.

“It’s really good to see the people in this parish receiving the help and assistance that they need from our medical and dental volunteers and paramedical group, said Dr. Denise Florence Bernos-Bragas, President of AMS. “As health worker I find humanitarian mission to be fulfilling. Volunteers don’t get paid. They are just doing it not for show but driven by the goodness of their heart. The rest are monthly salaried while others are just honor grabbers or opportunists with a hidden agenda. COA and Budget if you still have a little decency left in your heart, could you also audit their Financial Report to the best of your ability so that private donors and taxpayer’s money would find out where their hard-earned money really goes? NGO operates not only from the pocket of their benefactors but also a subsidy from the national government out of taxpayer’s money. Therefore, they are subject to auditing from both the government auditors and independent auditing entity. Perhaps these NGO staff are also receiving bribe secretly from the politicians without the knowledge of the volunteers, that’s why they’re obligated to be controlled or manipulated at the expense of the donors and of the volunteers. Sobra na ang kahihiyaan natin!

But for this activity done by our volunteers in the field of health,i want to inform everyone that this is not from the doing of our politicians in abra but due to the concern of some individuals like father who requested and coordinated with the medical people. We are lucky to have individuals like them who are willing to help, these doctors, dentist and health care workers can earn in their clinics during that time but opted to volunteer and be of help without compensation. We may be living in an imperfect world but we must not forget that there are still few who will devote their time to help especially the less fortunate.

The PMA organization is a different body not govern by politicians. It is a separate entity, they have their own funds not given by the government. And aside from that not all of these healthcare workers practices their craft in abra, you should do your research before you make a comment as such.

With the time they had shared despite their hectic schedules in the hospitals and clinics, they did find time to share their craft for free. I hope there will be more activities/ medical missions that will be of benefit to those who are less fortunate who can not afford consultations for a cost. Hopefully, i will be of help to them when they go to our community for medical mission either that activity is supported or not by the government. (“,)

Whether this noble mission is tainted with dirty politics or not, you don’t care and still you do want also to make a difference to the lives of our underprivileged constituents. If you were given a chance, to what specific municipality you want to render your free service first? I think it doesn’t hurt if you continue to be brutally or bravely honest now…..I’m expecting you to be direct and tell us where your heart says to serve with…Everybody has their own first preference if they were given a choice, isn’t it ma’am? After all, we are just using alias names if you think you will offend other municipalities.

These individuals/organizations whom I’m referring to belonged to the medical institution which are being criticized by our good critics. I am glad for the likes of them who are there to help even without any compensation. The CHANGE part of the message is for everyone though. I wish further that PA Is not in serious health problem so we ll soon hear AGAIN his inspiring thoughts. Going back to the heavy words in response to ES who seem to listen only to himself, even our Lord who is’ slow in anger’ attacked the money changer in the synagogue and John the baptize called the strict Law-abiding Pharisees ‘brood of viper.’
The medical mission conducted was really a noble one worthy to be appreciated. If ever politicians contributed for the purpose, it should also be appreciated because it’s their duty to help their constituents.The problem with most of us is that we are always doubtful with the integrity of our ‘honorables’. However Politicians can not blame us because while we see them live in luxury, most of us remain wallowing in poverty. The biggest examples are these shameless thief lawmakers n others leaders including Gloria who robbed our money purposely to uplift our miserable plight. But thanks to the ‘ tuwid na daan program’ we are beginning to witness changes which hopefully ushered us to a better Philippines with disciplined politicians worthy to be called honorables.

We all must agree that politics is also a part of life and when the rest of the things in your life are based upon your religious teachings then why not politics? Every religion teaches honesty, sincerity and good against evil, if politics will not have religion it means it wont have these teachings which will eventually end up in a corrupt environment for the society and the country.

Religion is where morals come from. Morals always come together with judgements – what is right and what is wrong. When people allow themselves to judge others – unreasonable arguments appear. Judgments are subjective, they are based on individual beliefs and ideas. Politics and law cannot allow themselves to be subjective. A court and a judge operate according to laws that do not come from the bible, otherwise we would not have jails but wait till god punishes a murderer. And we would not have Presidents, we’d have a king, whose legitimacy would be based on our belief that he is a representative of god. Mixing politics and religion is what gave us the holy inquisition, crusades and jihad. Get real, people.

Religion and Government have two different purpose, two different origins, two different studies, even the way to carry those out are different(but similar because both have certain order and task that coincidently similar)
First of all, let’s study each purpose. The purpose of religion is to educate everyone the ‘rights'(like tolerance) from ‘wrong'(like bigotry), build someone’s strength physiologically, strong will, and reflection to people that believe in religion(at least to someone that still humble). While Government gives everyone laws and order, consistency of standard, Diplomacy in official and formal way, and protect everyone in that government via Police(or prefect in Roman government), Fireman, and all civil service organizations.
Secondly, It’s applications. Religion is exist since the beginning of earth and birth of first philosophies. These philosophies and religion constantly changing and end up be an ideology of group of people also give crude estimation of something someone just saw so it can be described. However, despite the usefulness and give someone’s strength mentally, religions are getting more and more old fashioned(except Salomo’s proverbs) and not suitable for more progressive open-minded and tolerant societies. While governments application is actually, the application of all sides of knowledge(including science, history, primordial[which often happen], religion, philosophy, and ideology[which almost never happen])
lastly, actually mine random nickname and opinion for each. I love to nickname religion as the modern mythology(though some must admit from history), while religion as ‘a child that lead everyone with everyone lead the child’. Religion is good or bad depending of who ‘use’ the religion, while government depends on who operate and live in it.
Based on those, religion should shove far away from politics! If both mixed means fiasco in government and result in loss of country or if lucky enough(like Vatican City), have indeed small country zone(which make it not visible enough to everyone except nearby to see it)

However, our friend Tagamasid and others here are not using this venue for purely imparting/sharing us the general core of Religion, they call it Sermon. They are just citing some chapters and verses of the Bible in their argument just to emphasize their point as sign of humility and respect to the authors. I hope this is not so hard to accept since their only intention is to awaken us with some biblical principles that might sway the intellectual perception of our politicians who are backsliding because of greed and power. If not or not now, wouldn’t be nice if other readers especially the young ones could learn something from these biblical perspective that may broaden their innate love to their community in particular and to their Country in general?

This is one the the reasons why I have stopped posting comments and observations. I would like to believe that we still live in a vibrant democracy and that each of us has the right to express his or her opinion without the fear of being bashed and insulted. It is one thing to believe in your way of thinking; it is another to believe yours is the only way. Each of us must exercise restraint and be more tolerant of the views of others. I may not always believe what a person says, but I will always defend his right to say it.
I welcome any undertaking that will redound to the benefit of our people. The medical mission was a joint effort of the AMS and the parish headed by Fr. Tony Ruyan. It benefitted 250 people, mostly indigents. I cannot for the life of me, see anything wrong with it. Several doctors, dentists and nurses gave their services freely. I know a doctor, a nurse and a dentist personally. I had the privilege of working with that doctor in an international service organization. He is one of the simplest, humblest and most sincere person I have met in my life. He has the passion to serve. To this day, he lives a very simple and modest life. He and the rest do not deserve the sweeping allegations coming from some quarters that put to question their integrity.
I also welcome the “good news” anywhere, any time and from anyone. I welcome the “good news” brought to us by Tagamasid, Bodowan and others. As Christians, we are told not only to read the “good news” but to live it and to spread it to others. I would like to personally thank Tagamasid, Bodowan and others who remind us every now and then.
We are all on borrowed time. Perhaps, when we are young and strong and have all the means to survive, we may take God and religion for granted. But there comes a time in each of our lives when we will feel the burden. Believe me, as sure as the sun rises every morning, when that time comes in your life, you will seek God in everything you do. You will seek the comfort and refuge that you can only find in HIM. It does not matter what religious group you belong to as long as you believe in God.
Some say religion and politics don’t mix and I respect their opinion. But I believe that God is the only constant. He is here, there and everywhere. Perhaps, we are in such a mess because our leaders believe that God and government do not mix. Perhaps, we are in such a rut because our leaders do not believe that God sees everything and knows everything. Perhaps, we have never really progressed because our leaders believe that the 10 Commandments are mere suggestions. Perhaps, it is about time we put God above all else in our lives. Perhaps.

There are different opinions on the effects of religion on politics /politicians.and each one”s should be respected. I wish to emphasize here that there was no particular religion mentioned in my earlier post. I often used bible verses to support points which are believed important for our daily healthful relationship with others and appropriate guidance on good governance. Please be it known that our Lord Jesus did not only used inside the church but every opportunity, every place, including seaside, hills, etc., to explain the Good News.
Let me share my little research on Pres. George Washington, the first president of America, considered the father of USA and probably the father of democracy and the first president who took his oath with the holy bible in his hand. He said ” it is impossible to rule the world without God and the Bible.” From this TRUTH, trusting the ultimate power of GOD and the guidance of His Word, the Bible, USA became the show window of democracy, with abundant of peace and prosperity. Yes, I truly believe, that in man, many things are impossible but with God, every good things is possible. Trusting God by our leaders is our only hope for good governance leading us for a better life.

Abra Gov Bersamin is new RDC Chairman

BANGUED, Abra, July 18(PIA)– Abra Gov. Eustaquio Bersamin is appointed by President Benigno Aquino III as the new chairman of the Cordillera Regional Development Council.
The announcement was made during the 27th Cordillera Month celebration last July 15 which was hosted by the province of Abra thru the RDC Economic Development Sectoral Committee.
Ifugao Congressman Teddy Baguilat Jr. said that the appointment of Bersamin as chairman would be a boost in the attainment of the Cordillera Autonomy. He believes that the advocacy to the pursuit of regional autonomy would be stronger with the RDC having a leader that would be the messenger or liaison of the region to the president as far as development is concerned.
The priority of the RDC is the push for autonomy and being the chair gives him (Bersamin) the responsibility to lead in the drive for regional autonomy in the whole of the Cordillera region but specifically the province of Abra, said Baguilat.
Bersamin, in an interview, vowed that as the newly appointed RDC Chair, he will double the efforts of the actions of the RDC towards the pursuit of Cordillera autonomy. He assured that he will be taking the lead in the province of Abra for more information education campaign activities to be conducted in the grassroots level.
Baguilat also stressed that the selection of Bersamin as RDC chair underwent a process by a screening committee which include the Cordillera congressmen and other stakeholders.
Meanwhile, National Economic and Development Authority and RDC Vice Chair and Regional Director Milagros Rimando said that the celebration of the Cordillera for the first time in Abra is a historic since the considered father of Cordillera Autonomy, rebel priest Conrado Balweg, hailed from the province, and meaningful with the announcement of Bersamin as the new RDC chairperson.(JDP/RMC-PIA CAR)

So the appointment had undergone a certain process with the involvement of Cordillera leaders, meaning these leaders have so much trust to the integrity of our governor.
Several months ago I also expressed my displeasure on substandard projects where our gov. Is accountable. But I realized that these were not his personal shortcoming but to people whom he trusted. His enormous accomplishments for peace and infra overshadowed these unfavorable neglect. Hence, let us give him our support, inspiring him to do farther for a better Abra n entire Cordillera in general. His project of constructing road from Abra to Baguio ( benguet) for example will be a great advantage for us. Let us suggest to him other projects which we believe necessary to uplift socioeconomic life .I’m sure he will listen as I experienced. I felt that my area was neglected so I requested him to hear our problems. He promised to study the problems and solved it even though the request was only done through letter.
Our province is endowed with great reservoir of natural resources. We have abundant water . If only dam, even mini dams are made in the countless tributaries, farmers could use these to improve not only rice harvest, but could have tree planting, animal raising, fishponds, banana plantations ,etc Gimilina tree for example, a quality tree, can be harvested in less than 3 yrs; Mindanao use 7 yrs old for electric post. These simple projects if implemented by local executives will surely improve economic life of our farmers.
The best thing we can do to achieve these is to hear the cry of sir P Abrenio, let us work together to select deserving leaders by taking courage to campaign for them; let us start come 2016.

I am hoping that the gap between the cities and the countryside be bridged by development under the leadership of our Governor
the main reason of this gap is unequal investment between city and rural areas. Cordillera region for example, covers a very large area. Due to the bias in the development in the coastal areas and big cities, the government devotes more investment to these places. The investment, undoubtedly, is repaid by the rapid development of THE economy and finance in these cities. However, this is not the case in the rural areas and the remote regions. The lack of investment barriers the productivity and economic development as well as sharpens the gap between the city and rural areas
The low education level in the rural areas contributes partly to the gap of living. Education, undoubtedly, is the prime force of productivity. Keeping this in mind, many countries and governments give the priority to the development of education. However, the education levels in the countryside still keeps very low. The enrollment of primary schools and secondary schools is much lower compared with the advanced regions, not to mention the developed countries in the world. Without good education, the development of THE economy and technology would be a day-dream which is difficult to be realized.
the influx of workers from the countryside to the city deteriorates the undeveloped condition in the rural areas. In essence, there are many temptations luring those talented people to settle down in the city with the hope of approaching more job opportunities, cultural activities, sporting events, you name them. Therefore, even those well-educated people who are originated from the countryside intend to live a dynamic city life instead of returning to face the static countryside view. If this situation continues, it will lead to A serious imbalance in economical and regional development of rural areas.

We should not only support local traditions and sense of identity, but also reinforce a natural division of labor between the rural and the urban. Even as modern economies continue to move towards service jobs and industries, our basic needs – including that of eating – will continue to exist and be met through agricultural production. The rural is best equipped to meet these needs. We should invest in smaller agricultural schemes that follow traditional practices, invest in people and the environment that supports them, and offer the health and animal welfare advantages of less intensive food production and processing practices. This is a much better alternative to large-scale intensive farming and diversification schemes that are often purely profit motivated and may rely for labor not on local inhabitants but on gangs of cheap laborers.

Bangued is a first class municipality in the province of Abra in the Cordillera Administrative Region of the Philippines. According to the 2000 census, it has a population of 42,358 in 8,071 households. The government is aiming to put Bangued into higher standard and on the way of becoming a component city, and Cordillera Region’s third city after Baguio City and Tabuk, Kalinga.
The name of Bangued means “roadblock”. It was established as a regular town in 1598 and was made the seat of the provincial government of Abra on July 25, 1861. The inauguration coincided with the feast day of Saint James the Great.
The early settlers were the Tingguians belonging to the Bago, Itneg, Masadjit, lbanao, Indayas tribes, who latter intermarried with the immigrants from Ilocos Sur. The Tingguians opposed the Christianization introduced by the Spanish friars who penetrated the eastern settlements. The Tingguian residents prevented the Spaniards from penetrating their area of which they placed roadblocks on all roads leading to the place. They also cut large logs and threw them to the Abra River to prevent the incoming colonizers from entering the area with the use of their boats and bamboo rafts. These logs were made as obstacles and big rocks were placed along the roads which the natives called “bangen”, meaning obstacles.
When the conquistadores, led by Juan de Salcedo, decided to penetrate the area, they proceeded eastward and saw for themselves the big logs along the Abra River and the big stones which were placed, blocking all roads leading to the community. The Salcedo’s subaltern happened to meet one of the natives and asked what was the name of the place and thinking that they were inquiring about the big stones that were placed on the roads, he answered “bangen” and the subaltern jotted down on his notebook about the word.
The Spaniards were successful in their attempt to penetrate the inner communities in the east by removing the obstacles saying in Spanish “Abra ese obstucus” and it was in that happening when they developed the area and established the towns and barangays. The place where they found many obstacles, they named it “Bangen” and the province they called it “Abra”.
When the Americans colonized the country and established the civil government, the town’s name was modified to “Bangued”.

Hey…you can not blame Tagamasid for like others who are asking favor just to expedite the on-going/proposed project in their Municipality need to kiss ass sometimes. That’s how he loves his community by doing whatever it takes (like what you’re doing now to him) even to his personal degradation. So please just understand him…..Sorry Tags if misinterpreted you.
