La Trinidad, Benguet—The Abra police force seized last Saturday narra lumber worth P1.7 million and arrested four suspects in its continuing anti-illegal logging operations.
Inspector Julius Basinga, Baay-Licuan town station chief, said a resident reported dump trucks in Sitio Baquero of Barangay Nalbuan being loaded with narra lumber.
At a checkpoint set up on the Abra-Kalinga Road, a blocking team stopped two trucks (WIW 361 and UQA 269) allegedly owned by Golden Summit Corp.
Basinga said the suspects presented a permit which was later found spurious by Department of Environment and Natural Resources provincial office.
Senior Supt. Benjamin M. Lusad, Abra police director, identified the suspects as Hector Busto Pulido, 31, and Melven Valdez Balisalisa, 32, of Dasul town; Jhonathan Bacurin Mina, 40, of Alaminos City; and Prince Rivera Pobletin, 38, of Mabini, all from Pangasinan.
“Other individuals who will be included in the charges for violation of Presidential Decree 705 or the Forestry Code who claim ownership of the lumber are as follows: Edgardo Sanchez Burdeos, a resident of No. 8505 Sandoval Ave., Barangay Pinagbuhatan, Pasig City; Fredolin Gapuz Vallangca, a resident of Barangay Caanawan, San Jose City, Nueva Ecija; Jenny Granado, resident of Barangay Ubbog, Bangued, Abra; and Kwok Leung Lau, 58, a resident of No. 546 Evangelista St., Quiapo, Manila,” he said.
Lusad said the inventory by the DENR provincial office showed 11,969.52 board feet of narra lumber estimated at P1,795,428.
Chief Supt. Roberto Q. Soriano, Cordillera police deputy director for administration, commended the Abra police for its sustained anti-crime campaign.
