LA TRINIDAD, Benguet—At least five armed groups operating in Abra province and nearby areas have surrendered to authorities as a result of “peace-keeping” program of the local police, officials said on Thursday.
Regional police director Chief Supt. Benjamin Magalong said the break up of the five armed groups was credit to preparations for elections of Barangay Chairman and kagawads on October 28.
“We will continue our efforts to bring peace to Abra,” Magalong said.
Those who surrendered were identified as Edwin O’reilly Manaois, Amante Angeles Labasan, Amante Sagario Labasan Jr., Kinsley Belleza Singson, and Renato Bonete Sequera. They are residents of Langiden, Abra.
Magalong expressed his thanks to the people of Abra for supporting the peace-keeping initiatives of the police in the area and ensure a safe and orderly elections on October 28.
