TINEG, Abra, Aug. 28(PIA) — With the political will of the this lady mayor, the remote town of Tineg in Abra is now run right at its own background.

For the first time in its long political history, the local government unit (LGU) of Tineg now holds office in Sitio Vira, Brgy. Alaoa in this unpland municipality.

For years, local officials of Tineg had been holding office in the provincial capital town of Bangued due to poor road conditions, absence of electricity, and poor peace and order situation.

Newly assumed mayor Corinthia Dannang-Crisologo, the wife of ex-mayor Edwin Crisologo, wanted to prove that she can make a difference. When she ran for the mayoralty race in May, she promised that she would want to make the people of Tineg feel the presence of the government.
So when she was elected and assumed office in July, Crisologo did as she promised during her campaign sorties to establish the municipal office in Tineg and not in Bangued.

In a brief conversation with the new mayor, she said it was not difficult for her to make the decision to really hold office in Sitio Vira, Brgy. Alaoa. Times have changed – the town is now accessible and there is a signal for mobile phones in the area and communication is not a problem. The Philippine National Police, too, has established a detachment office there and security is manageable.
Tineg which is located on the northernmost part of Abra, is 75 kilometers from the capital town of Abra. It became an independent municipality in 1958 and has ten barangays.

With its rugged terrain surrounded by mountains with elevations ranging from 480 meters to 1,504 meters above sea level, it was hardly accessible. People had to walk for hours to reach the area especially during the rainy season. During elections in the past, election paraphernalia were usually delivered by military choppers. The road to Tineg was built recently.

Because of its inaccessibility, peace and order was a concern with a number of encounters between the military and the rebels in the area. Political rivalry was another concern.

With the municipality’s total land area of 83,223 hectares representing 20% of Abra’s aggregate land area, Tineg is one of the local government units in Abra receiving the highest Internal Revenue Allotment share. Unfortunately, development was slow.

Crislogo,a native of Tabuk City, Kalinga and a former employee of the Department of Finance – Cordillera Regional Office, has clear vision as to what she wants to attain in her first term. As she wants to make the people feel the presence of the government in Tineg which undeniably had long been neglected. And she wants to start off with the delivery of basic social services.
As an initial stage, she would be meeting with the local school board to look into their concerns because she wants to address the literacy problem in the municipality.

She also plans to embark into road building because infrastructure would have to come along with the delivery of social services. She believes road is basic to development.
Crisologo would want to see at least 30 percent of the major road network of the municipality established so that they could pursue economic development in the community.

During the interview, Crisologo expressed dismay on how some people are capitalizing on the poverty condition of the municipality of Tineg. She was referring to a news item posted in the net about some Filipinos based in London who have organized a “Concert for the Children of Tineg” . As of this writing, she said she is not aware of any project or whatever activity that would benefit the children of Tineg out of the proceeds of the said event. (JDP/MTBB-PIA CAR,Abra)

  3. I think you are right MOKS, you Tineg people must wake up, sana nga totoo ang hakbang ng bagong mayor ninyo.hindi lang sana pakitang gilas ito para naman matauhan ang mga naunang naging LCE’s ng naturang Bayan, Yong hindi Tiga Tineg pa ang may malasakit na gumawa ng hakbang para sa improvement ng bayan.Pero yong paghold ng office in a sitio is something weird, is it worth it to hold an office in a sitio with no people to serve? why not use the Municipal Hall if they have one or two. Napaka imposible naman siguro na may Munisipyo na walang Municipal Hall. They should make use of the municipal Hall in a certain Barangay with lots of peole who needs their service.

    • HE HE HE MALI KA KAIBIGAN,parang impossible nga na may munisipyo na walang munisipal hall but it EXIST lavander !MALIBCONG is the only town in our country which have no municipal hall .EWAN kung saan nagtratrabaho yung mga empleyado nila. SALUDO ako sa mayor ng TINEG na ito for she had broken the tradition of UPLAND MAYORS wherein they run their respective municipalities VIA LONG DISTANCE for they reside in the capital town of BANGUED making it a TOWN within a TOWN !!

  4. So the proceeds of that fund raising never touched the Mayor’s hand nor to these little angels/children who supposedly the beneficiary? Who was the brain or leader of this fund raising so that we could hang him/her upside down?
    Lord, please forgive their soul!

    • Quiba Beach…Check your choice of language. We should be thankful that some charibatble groups and organizations are willing to help others and chose Tineg …Mind you they are not from Abra. As far as I know they will send their own representative to the Tineg to make sure the intended purpose of the project will reach the identified beneficiaries/recipient. Just wait and see.

      • I’m sorry, I was just emotionally carried away because of the delay of this godly assistance intended for the innocent children. If they can’t trust the elected or not government officials, why not just pick 3 or more Parent Teachers Association (PTA) members to handle it. It only takes in minutes to send it that could be picked up either in Bangued or the closest mountain province, rather than delaying it where unfounded suspicion of distrust is easily formed.

  5. With regards to that fund raising by the Filipinos in London, thats a great idea to help those little ones, On the other hand, baka naman ayaw nilang ideretso sa LGU for the fear na baka d makakarating sa mga beneficiaries(Mga Bata) it might be entrusted to somebody whom they think they can trust and believe na sila na lng ang magdadala directly to those children who really need help.Nakakahiyang malaman na ang Municipality of Tineg who has the largest IRA in the entire province of Abra is top 3 poorest community entire the Philippines.Sana itong balitang ito ang gigising sa lahat ng tiga Abra di lang sa mga kababayan nating mga tiga Tineg for we all belong to one province.

  6. KUDOS to Mayor Cory Crisologo for taking
this ONE BIG BOLD STEP, albeit long-overdue,
in establishing the seat of power within Tineg’s
    political and geographical limits.
With her determination and uprightness, coupled
with the unselfish support of her officialdom and
constituents and considering further its hefty IRA
share, I am sure that economic development
and improved peace and order situation will finally
    find its way there.
To the other upland Mayors, do you believe this is
    worth emulating?

That’s the image of Abra politicians…

  21. With the huge area of Tineg which is supposedly 20/ cent of the entire land area of Abra ,if properly governed with good roads, ideal peace n order, businessmen would surely have desires to invest in this municipality. Maybe Doles Pineapple or banana plantations like Mindanao would be put up where jobs will be created to uplift the economic life of the people. Or maybe scientific cattle raising will boast greater income for the people.

Another ” if”only our rivers or even just the many small tributary rivers are tapped, dam/ reservoirs constructed, not only people of Tineg but entire Abra will become rich. With year round supply of water ,we can have rice harvest 3 times a year, we can have good pasturelands, increased fish products, commercial trees plantations, better sanitation etc.which will usher us for abetter life. Maybe the province and the different municipalities, politicians or religious groups would innetiated steps to find ways where to get money to realize this project – dam. I believe Filipino/ abra people are not too Damn not to be able to construct this much needed Dams

  22. Previous and current leaders in Tineg are day to day basis. Elected official and LGU’s dont have long planning. I agree with TAGAMASID, Tineg should embrace the kind of development, change and progress now. They should capitalize on what their land area could offer. They are blessed with land and water resources. The problem is, they dont have their own people to work on that. Nothing they can get to their politicians which on my opinion are not capable of thinking the technical ways or approach towards change and progress. There are licensed professionals and college graduates in this remote town already. The LGU of Tineg should work with these young, aggressive with dynamic ideas locals. They should attract these young professionals to work with the local government. They need not to hire these people since we all know that our young professionals are seeking for greener pasture with lucrative opportunity. Create a programs and involve the citizens of Tineg.

The move to bring the basic services closer to the people of Tineg is a good first step towards change. However, they should have placed it in the baranggay not in sitio Vira, Alaoa where only few near barangays can access easily.
