MANILA, Philippines – A man who confessed last month to killing Abra congressman Luis Bersamin in 2006 has also admitted to killing a couple in La Union last May 23, a police official said yesterday.
Lindon Alzate, 31, a resident of Manabo town, said he shot dead doctor Mario Valera and his wife, Viana, along the Naguilian-Baguio Road, according to Chief Inspector George Dipalog, who heads the Bauang, La Union police force.
Alzate, who was arrested for illegal gun possession in Quezon City last month, was charged with double murder before the Department of Justice in connection with the couple’s slay, Dipalog said.
He added that witnesses also identified Alzate as the couple’s killer.
Alzate was arrested at a police checkpoint along J.P. Rizal street in Barangay Bagong Silangan while riding a motorcycle driven by Ronald Bolor after he was found carrying a .45 caliber pistol.
Police said Alzate, believed to be a gun-for-hire, was supposed to kill another target at the time of his arrest. Alzate was also reportedly involved in several slay attempts in Abra from 2006 to 2010.

If Alzate spills the beans, it will solve 3 murders (I hope he also talk about his other missions). I would think the Bersamin and Valeras killings has different masterminds involved. I hope Alzate is in safe custody, if not he would be eliminated to stop him from divulging the people behind all these killings.

In the heat of the search for hard evidence against the corrupt Corona, members of the prosecution team, specifically Congressman Neil Tupas stumbled upon evidence of graft and corruption against Lucas Bersamin and Presbiterio Velasco. These two members of the Supreme Court were supposed to be next in the impeachment line to Corona. That was perhaps the reason why Lucas Bersamin was seen several times on national television lustily cheering while the corrupt Corona was speaking to the crowd. Perhaps, he may have thought, if Corona escapes impeachment, he too would be spared. He was wrong, dead wrong. I would recommend the book, “Shadow of Doubt” written by Maritess Danguilan-Vitug to people who may want to know how Lucas Bersamin became associate justice of the Supreme Court despite his lack of qualifications. Readers would also know how Justice Antonio Carpio made minced meat out of Lucas showing him very clearly that they were not intellectual peers. By the way, justices of the Supreme Court moved heaven and earth to prevent Mrs. Vitug from publishing this book, to the extent of filing a case against her. The justices were also able to intimidate owners of big bookstores to refrain from selling the book. Mrs. Socorro Ramos, owner of National Bookstore was one of those who succumbed to the intimidation. It was only through the tireless efforts of my son that I was able to get my copy of the book. Read it and you will find out how corrupt to the core the justice system in the Philippines is.

The murder case of my Uncle Chito is still pending before a court of law, and from the start, Justice Bersamin never made any statements as regards the merits of the case, except as to its status. In fact, he is not in the habit of expressing his opinions in pending cases out of respect to the court.
Please refrain from speculating on what his thoughts are about the case. It is misleading the public.
If you really must know what he thinks, why not ask him personally? He may entertain you.

I had always been making a joke in facebook that if they hire me to represent him, I could win his case based on my “diskarte” of the case. His nephew in Dolores had always been thanking me. I told the same thing to his closest friend…Bobbie Astudillo and Zinia Astudillo. We talked and talked about his inarceration. I always told them, it’s impossible. Knowing him (Vicsyd) I won’t believe he could do such a crime. Now that there is someone claiming the murder of Cong. Chito, he should be released as soon as possible.

The murder of Chito Bersamin was the catalyst for the power grab because Chito and Vicsyd are unbeatable in a fair and honest election because of their popularity. Whether they indeed served the interests of the greater majority of Abrenos is another story. Not even in his wildest dreams could Takit Bersamin see himself as governor of Abra. It was handed to him on a silver platter through the murder of his brother and the machinations of the most evil PNP Regional Director to serve in the Cordilleras in the person of Eugene Martin. The Bersamins are enjoying the fruits of governance and Lucas is waiting on the wings to dip his dirty finger in Abra politics too. That is the reason they have not made any move to rectify their mistake in sending Vicsyd Valera to jail through all means, fair and foul. Before anyone gets fooled again by another Bersamin, let me warn my fellow Abrenos to be extra careful in pushing for the candidacy of Lucas Bersamin for any political position. He is not the clean and honest person he purports to be. In due time, I will expose his shenanigans. He has many skeletons in his closet. The evil that men do will not be forgotten. I and all the members of my family have never worked in government and we have never ventured into politics. I was blessed to have the best education money can buy in our country. I was in grammar school when I was barely 4 years old. I worked for over ten years as Vice-President for operations in a private corporation. I was also blessed with the opportunity to lecture at the University of Life and the TLRC. I was the features editor of the school paper and I was the editor-in-chief of a reputable service orgnization with members throughout the world. I am a voracious reader and I have a library of my own. I spend most of my money on books. For the better part of my life I engaged in business with my brothers. I have no political alliance with anybody. I do not need to suck up to politicians or government officials to get ahead in life. There is nothing I want but a better life for our people. People criticize me for writing in English instead of Ilocano. Tagamasid, I was raised by my parents in Metro Manila. That is where I grew up, studied, worked and engaged in business. I relocated to Bangued when I retired some 24 years ago. I understand Ilocano fairly well but I have a problem writing in Ilocano. I would have written all my posts in Ilocano if only I knew. I am in the twilight of my life. I have dedicated the rest of my life to inform our people about the raging issues that affect them with the end in view of empowering them. There are people who will agree with me and there are some who will not. To me, that is fair enough. If my concern for the issues that will lead to a better life for our people will be the stick some people would use to beat me with, then so be it. I do not ask people to agree with everything I say, I only ask for respect, decency and civility. If I make mistakes and I surely will, people can correct me. I am a living and breathing human being who is far from perfect. But my parents brought me up to be a God-fearing, respectful and helpful soul. God bless.
