Abra town adopts modified rice prog

by Maritess B. Beñas / PIA

VILLAVICIOSA, Abra – This tobacco-growing municipality of Abra is implementing the expanded modified rice program (EMRP) to ensure food security in the locality.

With a P200,000 financial assistance from the Department of Agriculture central office, Mayor Marjorie Montalbo is determined to pursue the EMRP, because food security could also eventually address the problem on malnutrition brought about by poverty due to low productivity.

Montalbo said the EMRP, a two-year support program of the DA to rice farmers using organic fertilizer, is  being implemented in its initial stages in barangays Poblacion and Lap-Lapog covering 200 hectares. Its coverage is expected to expand as the program progresses.

Sonia Zales, rice program coordinator of the local agriculture office, said the EMRP incorporates the use of organic fertilizer in farming, which aims to increase production and the income of rice farmers.

The DA-CAR provides technical support in terms of trainings to ensure appropriate techno-logy application, with the hope farmers would also adopt the project in their respective barangays.

The DA central and field offices jointly monitor the project implementation, together with the Office of the Provincial Agriculturist, which likewise provides technical assistance to the farmers.

  3. This is a good news Caloy but it seems only this town will be benefited. What do they have that other towns doesn’t have in order to receive this kind of project? Political affiliation or the different town executives will bow down and kiss the asses of this government agencies concerned? Ever since the existence of this forum, when it comes to economic or any other good news, only few favored towns are repeatedly mentioned that some were lazy to put a good word because their humble town was never mentioned/involved unless when the news was bad or embarrassing. How do you figure that out? Would you still want us to express our appreciation although the fact of the matter “uray la ipog-pogiit mi payen ti mangisangiti ti ap-apal mi kadagitoy mapabpaboran laeng ti grasya?
    Pweee…!!!!

    • Yes I am with you Hopeless Abrenias, I am new here. I came to know this web site regarding issues in Abra by friends. What I observed here is that all I can see are bad and nothing good here are coming out? What am I trying to point it out here is that when is our Province becoming a big time province like our neighbors i.e. Ilocos Sur & Norte, La Union and the rest? When? I am very disappointed the way our Province moving. I care for the Abrenios specially our youths. Killings, graft, infrastruture low class of constructions and many more that you can here from among our Abrenio friends and internet news. Why our political leaders in Abra, if they are trully leaders, never care for development of many? Only their families that they are considering and never mind the welfare of many. This is also nationwide decease- corruption. And I can say it is worldwide. Graft and corruption is already a decease of Filipinos from way back Spanish Era. We have inherited the easy life easy get money attitude from Spanish Conquestidors. Spain conquered us to get many from us, they didn’t care- that is sakim. I am getting hopeless I think to change our Province and the whole of Philippines. Yes pweeee…..!!!!

  4. This program of the dept. of agriculture for Villaviciosa is commendable.

Nupay daytoy expanded modied rice program ket para viciosa ti agdama, mangnamnama tayo nga agwarasto met laeng daytoy- ti effectona ti kabangibang nga luglugar ken bareng no maikkanto met ti pundo ti dadduma nga ili. Let us develop thinking positive. Ta ti negativo apanpanunot ket isu ti kangrunaan nga lapped ti balligi. No pampanunuten lattan ti rigat, talaga nga agririgat ka lattan. ‘Ti apal ket maysa nga kita ti basol” . Daytoy EMRP ket napintas nga program ket daytoy ti kasapulan nga imula ti panunot. Be resourceful , think and innetiate a possible ways to benefit from this program. No asideg ka ti viciosa ken uray adayoka, ikarigatam nga ammuen ti mapaspasamak diay program. Amin nga municipio ket adda met agriculturist s nga sidadadaan nga mangted ti technical know how ti panagaramat ti organic fertilizer ken no kasano ti agaramid iti daytoy, bayat nga ur- urayen ti pondo para ti bukod nga ili.Ta ti kanayon nga panagaramat ti chemical fertilizer ket in- inutenna nga dadaelen ti texture ti daga.

I believe not all political leaders in Abra are selfcentered, working only for their family’s welfare. The governor n the mayor of Bucay are doing their best to improve the quality of life of their constituents. Bridges, roads from farm to markets are constructed n hospitals constructed n rehab not for their families but for all of us. With the ‘evaporization ‘ of the Lunas and to be followed by one of the families of political corrupt and murderers in Abra, there is great hope that funds, enough funds will be use to expand the expandedMRP. With this development. ‘the night is almost gone and beautiful dawn is coming’ in our beloved province. With our sincere prayers and trust to God’s love, I know a better new life is coming for us.
