Mayor Valera: I will….

Mayor Elect Dominc Valera's battlecrys "Asenso Bangued"

Mayor Elect Dominc Valera’s battlecrys “Asenso Bangued”

Mayor Dominic Valera, on his posting in his PUBLIC FaceBook Account “Asenso Abra” said:

“I will inspire the people of Bangued to dream more, learn more, do more and become more. I will instill in you a hope for success and a belief in yourselves. The pessimists complain about the wind. The optimists expect it to change. Being your Mayor, I will adjust the sails.”

The words seems to imply that the good Mayor is still in a campaign mood. Real question is “How is the Mayor going to adjust the sails?”

  1. We want PEACE. Anusan mi ipangan iti bagoong basta natalna ti iti ti Bangued…awan serbi asenso no adda maawan nga ipatpateg mi iti biag.

    • With all due respect, we have never complained about the wind. The sincere, thinking individuals in Bangued are complaining about real problems – many lives have been lost, offered as a sacrifice at the altar of dirty politics. These are real lives. They were living and breathing individuals before their lives were snuffed out by assassins. Public funds are lost to graft and corruption and people of Bangued know it and feel it. I am sorry to say that the
plunderers have not been discreet. It is not enough for them to have looted government coffers, they have to flaunt their ill-gotten wealth. It is there for all to see. You don’t even have to browse on Facebook because people see them whenever these government officials make public appearances. The law on plunder states that wealth that is grossly disproportionate to your income is deemed ill-gotten and the burden of proof shifts to the accused. The only proof that the wealth is not ill-gotten is the income tax return. I don’t believe any of these government officials will pass the income tax test. The ploy of putting ill-gotten wealth in the names of other relatives will no longer succeed today because the authorities will find out who the beneficial owners are. Besides, if they put it in their relative’s name, that relative will have to explain how the wealth was amassed, again through the income tax return test. The people of Bangued only want honest, competent and resolute leadership, leadership by example. Lip service will not improve the lives of people. Take the simple case of garbage collection, in all honesty, can the leadership of Bangued say they have done a good job? Complaints are not made to destroy anybody’s image. People are paying taxes and they deserve to get something back in the form of service. The citizens have the right to seek redress of their grievances. That is very basic in local governance. The winds of change have come and those who fail to heed it will be left behind.

Once we know them and their addresses/phones, maybe we could contact them 24/7 for whatever problem arises, especially economic, political, and human rights problems. Napigpigsa or nalalaaw bassit siguro ti boses da (bareng no saan da nga agpabayad a) nga mangilaban kadagiti ania man nga grievances tayo aglalo kadagiti padak nga awan wenno nababa iti adal da, nakurapay ken mabain nga umasideg tapno agpaarayat, wenno dakami nga awan la pulos ti connection na kadagiti makatulong agsipud ta dida kami pagan-ano for various reasons.

        • With all due respect, BANGUED, people posting their comments and observations are not cowards. Wake up and see the real cowards – those who pay assassins to murder people, those who shoot people behind their backs, those who strut around like peacocks with a platoon of bodyguards. Ask them to walk the streets of Bangued, unarmed and with no bodyguards and we’ll find out how courageous and brave they truly are. We are ordinary mortals, armed only with a clear conscience and a love for our people. We have mo wish to hurt, maim or kill people. You must understand that the role of the writer is to write about things that people would like to say but can’t because of fear. We write about the concerns of people who have lost their voices. If some people call us cowards, so be it. There have been numerous imstances in the past when mere mortals like us approach the powers that be to air legitimate concerns only to be rebuffed. Arrogance of power is the order of the day. If our officials want change to happen, it must start with them. They must be held to a higher standard of behavior because of their positions. “The greatest acts of courage are not physical, they are moral. The most dazzling act of bravery is not to leap out of the trenches, rifle in hand to assault the enemy. It is to hold on to one’s beliefs when they are being sorely tested and to walk quietly in one’s path”.

  5. Beautiful words, beautiful lines. It will surely inspire us who have been dreaming big dreams. Dreams toward peace n order, love, compassion, rigteousnees and a lift to the miseries of the poor. But our needs are not beautiful words; Our needs is action. ACTION SPEAKS LOUDER THAN WORDS.

Adun nga padas ti naglabas, padas mo ti biag kas maysan nga lumakay: kinaimbag, adu nga kinadakes kas kaniak; ta amin a tao adda kinadakes na.(ulitec, Romans 3:10 n Romans 3:23)

Napapatay ti bomba nga narigat pay mailasin ti bang kanya. 2. Sapay koma ta saanta nga mapadasan daytoy kabsatko, ta uray siak gapu ti kinatangsit (pride, kinarasi kas Tao) adu met nagbasolak. I trust God is Love and forgiving. I believe without doubt when He said “repent, confess all sins committed, have a new heart n mind, because it is not my pleasure to have anyone to be destroyed, be born again, follow my commandments and I’ll give you life” . Please read also John 3:16, to know how God loves the world and Revelation 21:3-5 the descriptions of life in the new earth waiting for us. Amongst the promised new life ” no more crying, no more suffering, no more sickness but a perfect everlasting life”. I pray that your goal of change and vision for a better Bangued will be realized thru the guidance of the hands of the mighty God above.

Anong malay mo, because of the prayers of Tagamasid and others, people and events will change. Let’s support this dream, we have nothing to lose, anyway…..If still a bad dream or nightmare, well, what’s the use of the majority silent voice or right of suffrage on the next election?

What really bothers me, is, three years had passed, still not even one thief politician in the province went into jail for corruption. Executive Secretary Paquito Ochoa, Jr. is the man trusted by the President for this corruption eradication campaign but it looks like that GMA is the only sinner and the rest especially Abra politicians are all saints. And now Sen. Lacson was rumored to head this corruption eradication campaign but still under the command of Paquito Ochoa………?????
Don’t get me wrong, but why not just replace the head that could not cut a head?

Adjusting the sails is not so impossible for the Mayor. He has the strength, power, and right to do it. The real question emerges on how this sail being capable on itself – “Does this sail perfect?”. The nice thing to focus with is that to find his town folks looking on the Mayor’s concept in one perception. In fact many has still against the will of the Mayor, moving towards the downfall of him, that is. The “sail” still has many holes that is why the town hardly moves forward. All he can do first is to make cover for these holes completely before adjusting and raising the sails. However, antagonist will still be antagonist. We cannot put them out in the scene unless they will be totally mind-vacuumed.

    • BANGUED CITY, if Mayor Dominic serves with integrity and competence, if he and members of his family live modest lives, if he heeds constructive suggestions, I have no doubt the majority of people in Bangued will support him. Let him stretch his arms out to all people, be they supporters or members of the opposition. In abundance, let him and members of his family live a simple lifestyle, a life of sharing. Now that most of our people live in abject poverty, let there be dignified living and a constant effort for just structures. Instead of selfish ambition may he offer himself in humble service. Let him heal the wounds of division that has plagued our society because politicking never seems to end even after the elections. May he stop the desire for revenge and retaliation against his perceived political enemies. May he opt to serve rather than be served. May he lead by example. If he can do these, there is no doubt a great majority will support him. He cannot always put the blame on his perceived political foes for failure in governance. It is he who holds the reins of power.

We are given the absolute freedom of choice, to life with God or to death in burning hell with satan.
