The Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) and the New People’s Army (NPA) continue to trade barbs regarding Peace Talks and the Malibcong Incident.
It started with the NPA’s claim that the Army drop bombs in Malibcong
the AFP has reportedly begun a pursuit operation, in the process bombing several areas in the town of Malibcong. At 2 p.m. on May 30, it dropped bombs in Gacab and Duldulao. At 7 a.m. on May 31, helicopters reportedly bombed farmlands in Paoay, Umnap, Bangilo.
The AFP denied the accusation saying that the NPA is using propaganda tactics to cover up their atrocities.
“This is just a matter of covering up the atrocities they (NPA) have done. We have seen this in the past several incidents where they attacked civilian communities,” Tutaan said.
“It (prospects of the peace talks) is dim because of the NPA’s continuing violence… We have to sit down, talk peace but let us not undertake any form of violence most especially against civilians,” he added.
Despite all these, the Army still open to peace talks according to this press release
The Army in Abra remains open to holding local peace talks with the New People’s Army (NPA) despite the recent allegations made by the rebels against its troops, an official said Tuesday.
“We will welcome local peace negotiations. We will welcome peace talks in line with the new approach of the OPAPP (Office of the Presidential Adviser on the Peace Process,” Iriberri said in an interview.
But in a rejoinder by Diego Wadagan ( NPA Rejoinder 11June2013 ), Spokesperson of the (NPA-Abra), sent via email to abrenian.com, fired back saying it’s the AFP’s misdeed that is scuttling the issue/s:
It is because of their own misdeeds that they have to turn heaven and earth to redeem themselves. The facts are: (1) they scuttled the current peace talks between the NDFP and the GPH because they cannot abide by previous agreements regarding the conduct and process of the peace talks; (2) the AFP bombed farmlands in Malibcong, Abra; (3) government apologists and propagandists are ignorant, to state it tamely, of international laws and conventions pertaining to war and the conduct of war; and (4) AFP officials and some local and national government officials lied and continue to lie about real casualties and violators in the conduct of the 44 years of national democratic revolution waged by the CPP-NPA-NDF.
Are you still with me? confused yet? Looks like this is an unending accusations and counter-accusations between the two parties. What about the People of Malibcong and Abrenians being affected with this long protracted war? What can the Local Government do? What’s the Governor’s stand on this issue?
Regardless who’s telling the truth, the ordinary Abrenians are again under the gun.
