LA TRINIDAD, Benguet – The police on Saturday arrested one of the killers of Abra Liberal Party (LP) leader Tirso Talledo leaving three suspects at large.
A manhunt is ongoing in Abra to apprehend the trio responsible for the death of the 30-year-old Talledo.
Cordillera Police Chief Benjamin Magalong identified the suspect as Ronnie Cagaid Caray, a resident of Barangay Colabaoan, San Juan.
Caray was arrested in Sitio Calading, Barangay Pacac, Dolores and was found with a .45 caliber shooter pistol with two loaded magazines. The two motorcycles used in the shooting were also with the suspect during the arrest.
Magalong said, “We are delighted over the quick action of our personnel that led to the arrest of one of the suspect which is the product of a well-rounded intelligence network coupled with the full cooperation of the public.”
Magalong cited a need for the public to continue providing law enforcers with vital information that will lead to the arrest of violators who continue to commit crimes and hide from the long arms of the law.
Magalong said attempts to kill the LP leader were on since the prior 2010 elections.
Caray is now under the custody of the Dolores police including the firearms and the two motorcycles recovered from the suspect.
In 2007, Abra town counted 43 murders, 16 frustrated murder, 1 attempted murder, 25 frustrated homicide, 4 attempted homicide, and 12 homicide cases totaling to 101 were reported, tagging the province as the killing fields of the north.
In the past, assassinations of political personalities Mark Ysrael Blando Bernos, Mayor of La Paz who was killed on January 13, 2006 and James Bersamin, Board member of Bangued killed on November 11, 2006 and the death of Congressman Luis Bersamin Jr. on December 13, 2006 triggered an apprise condemning political killings.
But Magalong also earlier stressed that poll violence in the region is on check and currently under control.
