Energy Secretary Carlos Jericho Petilla is in talks with officials of Abra Electric Cooperative to avert power outage in the province.
Sources said Petilla deferred a move by the National Electrification Administration to intervene and take over Abreco, which has been facing disconnection for failure to pay its debts to Aboitiz Power Corp.
Aboitiz Power disconnected Abreco on Dec. 10 and reconnected it on Dec. 11, after the electric cooperative paid part of the arrears. Aboitiz Power issued another notice of disconnection on Dec. 17 but did not implement it in consideration of the Christmas season.
“Government is exploring. We’re looking at options, emergency powers of the President for example, but it may take time. They may have brownouts for two weeks before we can resolve this and you can’t live for two weeks without power,” Petilla said earlier.

any other move/idea mr. secretary better than nea to take over abreco? nea would be the best gov’t agency to foresee and rehabilitate abreco since cda is doing nothing about their coop member with regards to the issue. while your office sir will one way or the other send an investigative team to investigate, evaluate and sue parties that brought abreco to this very humiliating situation. we beg u mr secretary that we(member-consumers) be a beneficiary of the presidents’ “matuwid na daan.”

Kung ni-random pick nila ang ABRECO, ano ang legal na basehan nito? Kung ang AUDIT na ito ay hiniling ng mga Abrenyo, paano nangyari ‘yan at ni hindi nga natuloy ang General Assembly dahil hindi umabot sa bilang ng mga signatories na nag-hiling nito? Posted by Romano Romano | January 6, 2013, 9:02 amyou’re confusing yourself too much romano……general assembly is not a prerequisite to file a formal request to conduct an audit or to look in to the matter as to why abreco came to this point. as to the legality of the said move of cda, i dont think the agency just dispatch their team without consulting their legal dev’t. regarding other electric utilities fron visayas and mindanao who are also in a state of insolvency, let’s just leave them there since they are least of my concern for now. i heard over a radio interview that a certain gemma barbero (abreco employee) filed charges from DOLE against abreco for not releasing their 13th month pay……SSS for unremitted contribution….PHILHEALTH…..PAG IBIG….and BIR for not remiiting their withheld taxes for 2 years now……and the saddest part here is, the complainant is being harass by abecos’ top management.
lahat na lang ba ng galaw ni abrenio sa tingin mo kaibigan eh politically motivated or the abrenios are already sick and tired of such abuses?
