Uncertainty over Abra power supply worries cops

BAGUIO CITY—A management conflict over the Abra Electric Cooperative (Abreco) has become a security issue because police fear that an unstable power supply would disrupt the conduct of the elections next year, police officials said.

Aboitiz Power Renewables Inc., which supplies electricity to Abreco, cut off supply to the cooperative on Dec. 10 because of breaches in a restructured debt agreement, said Ria Calleja, Aboitiz Power assistant vice president for corporate branding and communication.

  1. It could very well be that this power outage was a well thought-out stratagem for political purposes. People are now convinced that it is management corruption and incompetence that is the cause of the power disruption. With the blame now solidly attributed to that reason, these outages can now be exploited for other murkier designs such as possibly ridding unwantables or undesirables or in the execution of other tactics by warring political sides to harass people to take sides.
