Abra Cooperative Wrestles Off “Thirsty” Power Grab

By Artemio A. Dumlao

Bangued, Abra  — The Abra Electric Cooperative (Abreco) is wrestling off a “thirsty” power grab as the supposedly apolitical distribution utility has not shaken off the specter of “dirty politics”.

Abreco, while thanking its more than 30,000 consumer-members who settled their bills on time for the P7 million last trance due to APRI last week averting a power shut-off said, “strives to hurdle all the challenges to its existence as an autonomous and self-sustaining cooperative unshaken by political intervention”.

In behalf of the Abreco management, cooperative manager Loreto Seares Jr., threw potshots against a top local official, whom he did not name, in tandem with some “pseudo-advocates of social change”, “who have evil designs of political adventurism and power grab out to depose us and own (the cooperative)”.

A supposed petition asking the National Electrification Administration (NEA) to take over Abreco’s management is circulating in Bangued, Abra’s capital town.

Abreco in the past complained of intervention by political figures especially in the election of Board of Directors. But Abra governor Eustaquio Bersamin, who has been alluded to be the one dipping fingers into the affairs of the power cooperative took exception on charges that he wanted his own “anointed-one” to replace Seares Jr. ahead of the then 2013 midterm polls then.

Abreco has already paid in full last Tuesday afternoon its dues to the power supplier Aboitiz Renewable Power Inc. (Apri) averting last Wednesday’s supposed deadline that would have rendered the whole province in darkness.

“Even as they have resorted to black propaganda and sabotage in undermining the normal billing and collection activities of our employees, these people of power and religious influence cannot put down the spirit of cooperativism which governs our operations,” Seares Jr. vowed.

The Abreco manager promised, “we assert our determination to carry on the mandate of Abreco to deliver quality, safe, reliable, sufficient, and affordable electric power supply to Abrenios,” amid “the doomsayers and obstructionists equally hell bent on destroying our name, our family, and our cooperative administration.”

Abreco however “shall overcome and prevail,” Seares Jr. said as, “the truth shall keep our lights on,” adding, “we have started remitting the next scheduled payments for Friday 21st to cover the current bill.” It is still a long way to go, but we are back right on track as scheduled, the cooperative manager further added.***Artemio A. Your press releases mr gm is too good to be true…..the best thing you could do now to redeem yourself from this very humiliating situation where you and your family of having accused of stealing people’s money is to call for a GENERAL ASSEMBLY and present the coops financial statement to prove your claims and save your ass……

  19. Abreco has been too politicized, but again, “where there is money-that’s where politics is”. Elections of Directors are forthcoming, watch for Mayors and money being involved. How are these so called Directors going to get back their ‘Investment and profit” in vote buying? Your answer is as good as mine.

Pudno unay nga ‘ti panagayat t kuarta ti puon t amin nga kinadakes.’ Daytoy nga pakaibokbokan ti ayat ket kasupadi ti ayat nga isusuro, I pateg koma ti maysa nga christiano tapno magun-od ti talna ken ragsak. Narigat nga maawatan ta ti ammok manipud kinaubing, maisursuron ti panagayat. Idi Boy Scout datao naisuro nga tallo ti pakaiturongan ti ayat nga representar ti 3 nga kattinga nga ramay. The middle finger, the highest represents God; the ring inger represent yourself and the forefinger represents others. God should be supreme above all things. Others, our neighbors should be second consideration, and ourself , the last. But existing general practices now is the opposite, from the common man to the highest authorities. Spiritual consideration seems to be nothing against the love of the glitters. Love of neighbors seems to have no more value. Love of oneself seems the priority of everyone. Worst the ‘ the HONORABLES’ swallow even the tiniest things intended for the majority poor. God forgive if I’m wrong, but maybe we are punished with endless miseries because most of us are hypocrites!
For our leaders :’ you cannot serve 2 masters, either you love one n hate the oters; you cannot serve both God and mammon/ money- the devil.’ God said ‘ what does man gaiin if he has the world but forfeit his soul.’
God is Love. God wants us to love Him First, others next then ourselves last. To have JOY: Jesus first,Others next Youselve last. Wishing you all a Merry Christmas !,

    • Koliglig, I have no particular issues against the governor. Review my previous posts how I defended and exalted him for being so different from others for his accomplishment in infra, peace campaign n other socioeconomic endeavor. My complain is general in nature, particularly addressed to mayors n other LEADERS. As I often mention, we have all shortcomings, that includes gov. Himself and myself. Even on issue in sub standard projects, I gave the blame to people whom he intrusted ; maybe his only failure is supervisions.
I want to mention here one particular area where the governor failed to ‘oversee’ how funds are implemented. I visited Pilar last year where I worked for almost 10 yrs. after 5 yrs of absent. I went around the barangays to visit friends and relatives. I was glad to note that many roads are already cemented. I learned that these were done only in the last 2 yrswith the governor’s coordination. Poblacion Pilar to Dalit, some 20 km was sporadically cemented when I left, but now it is fully cemented, and Tikitic to Gapang, maybe 11/2 km , finished thru the governor’s innetiative according reliable info.Roads to Patad , and Nagcasan to Gapang were KALAHI PROJECTS, a national project.
My point here is, had the good governor made closer supervisions on the implementations of funds earlier to Pilar, ( and all mayors, maybe greater portions of funds intended for the poor were not diverted by mun mayors to pockets. Pilar which receives no less than 50 million per yr. from RA 7171 should have improved the quality of life of the poor tobacco farmers. But After my 5 yrs absent in Pilar, I have seen A BIG LIFT OF PROSPERITY ONLY to the former Vice governor family as shown in their luxury cars and big houses.(I’m sure this is also true to most if not all “HONORABLES ” in different municipalities. )

Governor sir, my salute- better late than never. More power!

      Posted by TAGAMASID | December 7, 2014, 12:02 pm
  26. Only an incompetent coop general manager would allow ABRECO to get to this point of being unable meets its financial responsibilities!

Do the people of Abra a favor and put a lid on it and RESIGN so a new and more competent manager will be installed to fix a totally screwed-up job you endured under your watch! Sadly, I seriously think you DO NOT have the mental capacity nor the intelligence to fix this problem neither would you ever in the future! Because if you did, ABRECO will NOT be in the same predicament at it does now!

Hence, JUST QUIT and allow those that have the know-how run the coop!! We call this, THE FINAL SOLUTION!
